Peppadews
  • South Africa

Vibrantly red, Peppadews pack a pronounced sweet and spicy flavor into one crunchy bite. They may look like a habanero pepper, but they’re entirely unique. In fact, they were only discovered growing in South Africa in 1993. Zesty and bright, these Peppadews add an extra zing to any burger, kebab, or salad. Add them to your next cheeseboard for some zippy sweetness and pair alongside rich Murray's Sopressata Salami and gamey Pyrénées Brebis.

“These small, bright red sweet and spicy peppers from South Africa are the perfect choice whenever you need to add a nice acidic element to a recipe. They’re great in sandwiches, pasta, salads—the uses are endless. I personally love them as an appetizer with some Buffalo Mozzarella and Calabrese Salami. I always have a jar on hand.”

  • First discovered in South Africa in 1993, Peppadews were the first “new” fruit to hit the global market since Kiwi was introduced in the 1980s.
  • Their name is inspired by their flavor: spicy like a pepper (peppa) and fresh as the morning dew.
  • A sweet, piquant pepper, Peppadews are now cultivated in the Limpopo province of South Africa.
  • They come in many colors and flavor grades, but the red peppers have the firmest, crunchiest texture and a blooming flavor that blends sweet, spicy notes.
  • Seeds are removed from the peppers to reduce their heat.
  • The peppers are then pickled n a brine of vinegar and sugar before being bottled.
  • Crunchy, spicy, and sweet, Peppadews add a zesty bite to paninis, salads, and sandwiches—and can even be stuffed with fresh goat or feta cheese.
