Affectionately called “the baked potato cheese,” Hornbacher is an Alpine comfort food. It’s crafted in Wasen, Switzerland, from raw cow’s milk. Alongside those nourishing notes of baked potato are undertones of roasted nuts and caramelized onions. Melt it over roasted root vegetables for a warming, homey meal. Or keep it simple and snack on a slice with your favorite oaky wine.

  • Hornbacher was once only available in the producing creamery’s cheese shop. It was only in 2014 that the producers made it available outside of their own retail store.
  • The Master Cheesemaker behind Hornbacher, Michel Spycher, is a three-time World Cheese Champion for his gruyere.
  • The cows that provide the milk for Hornbacher are permitted to graze naturally on Alpine grass.
