  1. Spread the onion confit on one slice of bread, then top it with cheese, cornichons, and other slice of bread.
  2. Butter the outside of each bread slice with half a tablespoon of butter. Grill the sandwiches on medium heat until golden-brown on one side, then flip and repeat. Once cooked, open the sandwiches and add in the crispy fried onions in to finish. Serve immediately.
