Bearing strong resemblance to Parmigiano Reggiano, Agriform Grana Padano is made throughout the Veneto region in northeastern Italy. Grana Padano is a firm cheese with a straw-colored rind and an aromatic, dense paste with a sweet, nutty flavor that is never tangy. The cheese has a granular, crumbly essence that makes it easy for shaving and grating. If you're adding it to your cheese plate, try pairing with a few slices of Prosciutto di Parma or Murray’s Sliced Sopressata Salami.
“Most people associate Grana Padano as a cooking cheese grated into pastas or salads, but I think it also makes a great table cheese. Serve it with something sweet, like balsamic vinegar, figs, or a drizzle of honey for a delicious appetizer or snack.”
Allergens: Eggs, Milk
Agriform Grana Padano is produced in accordance with PDO guidelines from partially-skimmed raw milk, animal rennet, salt .
It originated over 1000 years ago in Northern Italian monasteries, and was codified as distinct from its cousin Parmigiano Reggiano in 1951.
Both Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano are Grana style cheeses.,
Grana is both the name of the family of cheeses as well as a reference to how the cheeses are made. The name refers to the 'grain-sized' pieces in which the curds are cut to promote drainage resulting in the cheese’s hard, dry texture.
The Agriform cooperative produces and ages PDO Grana Padano from the milk of over 1000 small dairies in the mountainous Veneto region of Northeastern Italy.
Grana is often aged less than Parmigiano Reggiano. It is typically released at 9 months versus the traditional 12 months for Parm, giving Grana Padano a slightly softer texture and less salty profile.
